THUMBS DOWN!

thumbs down

Thumbs Down this

week to leaders of the western world who remained silent while the Muslim Brotherhood called for genocide against the Jews at a 5,000 person strong rally at Cairo's most prominent Mosque last Friday.

"It is shocking to hear the Muslim Brotherhood 'activists' vowing to, "one day kill all Jews'"
and chanting "Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv Judgment Day is coming," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. "The roar of their genocidal rants was matched only by a shocking silence of world leaders."

Overheard at my neighbourhood cafe

or

Why I support FSWC

A new Starbucks opened here in the Beach (in Toronto) just down the street from my office. My partner and I dropped in one day, ordered our coffees and sat down but instead of having a conversation we could not help but overhear the middle aged lady at the next table "educating" her girlfriend.

She explained how we continue to suffer today because of the Jews; How they brought America into the Second World War to defeat Germany, that America had been pro-German before that but the Jews reversed that; that Jews were fired from their jobs in 1933 Germany due to disloyalty and they had been properly warned to stop stabbing Germany in the back with their Zionism; how they were doing it again to America as they had done to Europe; that they had flown 80 congressman to Israel last year all expenses paid to further their agenda; that the Balfour Declaration gave them Palestine when they had no right to it; that they somehow were complicit in the Kennedy assassination; and on it went. Her friend kept saying she did not know much about it, but the woman told her neither had she until she saw it confirmed in three to four different sources, none I had never heard of or could remember. I felt so sick I just left.

It was pretty horrible but also a real barometer and an eye opener that what is happening is becoming a norm - this was in a Starbucks but it could have been in a KKK meeting. It makes me appreciate how important the work FSWC does battling hate and racism and ignorance and why I am such a strong supporter.

Our Students Write. . .

FSWC received the following letter from teachers in involved with a special Humanitarian and Environmental Stewardship program (HELP) in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board after attending a "Genocide and the Power of Action" workshop.

I wanted to take the opportunity on behalf of myself and students FSWC Classroomto articulate our heartfelt gratitude to you all at Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for such an extraordinarily enriching, informative and touching workshop and discussion. Due to the very nature of the HELP program, we are out frequently assisting with and learning from the greater community but rarely have I seen the students as moved as they were following this experience.

From all of us, thank you immensely. I greatly look forward to returning soon.

FSWC ACTION UPDATE!

FSWC INCREASES UNIVERSITY PRESENCE

In response to the construction of a student government- approved "apartheid wall" in mid-November by the group Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights at the University of UWO WallWestern Ontario, FSWC has contacted the university's administration for its reaction to this most recent provocation to hate.

In the ongoing fight against anti-Israel incitement and antisemitism at universities across Canada, FSWC continues to partner with students and Jewish campus professionals to confront ongoing activities by groups opposed to the existence of the Jewish State and intent on intimidating Jewish students.

Our efforts to speak with university students and administrations on campuses across Canada help us learn more about the atmosphere at their universities, the level of anti-Israel activity and the actions being taken to fight against hate. Through meetings with students and consultations with professional Jewish campus staff, FSWC is working on developing strategies and harnessing our resources to assist students according to their needs and to involve them in making a positive contribution by countering intolerance and bigotry.

Despite the fall semester winding down and students starting their exam period, events organized by radical campus groups continue to target Israel and propagate antisemitism. Although these events (Including the following below) mainly target already radicalized extremists, it is crucial to be aware that they are taking place regularly on our campuses.

  • A presentation by Wahida Valiante, the Chair and National President of the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC) at a University of Toronto women's Multi-Faith Symposium titled "Sharing our History - Building our Future". The CIC has previously been identified as anti-semitic by Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.
  • The University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education is hosting a seminar this weekend titled "Palestine, key to the Arab Revolt against imperialist domination" conducted by Canadian Trotskyites as part of "The 4th Annual Toronto Socialist Action Trotsky School."
  • A Boycott Israel Apartheid Campaign group at the University of British Columbia is conducting an event called "Ghetto Palestine" featuring Canadian journalist Jon Elmer. He is virulently anti-Israel and has sympathized with recognized terrorist group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, referring to its members in jail for murdering an Israeli cabinet minister as "political prisoners".
DESPITE THREATS, MOSHE ARENS REMAINS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE FUTURE OF ISRAEL

Moshe Arens, former Israeli Defense and Foreign Minister and former Israeli Ambassador to the US, professed his optimism to an overflow crowd at an FSWC-sponsored community event at the Beth Sholom synagogue in late November.

While noting that "terrorism is endemic in the Middle East," and that there is currently a campaign of delegitimization against the country, he pointed to positive signs as well, insisting, "The Jewish people are defenseless no more."

Despite the threat of a nuclear Iran, Mr. Arens explained, "Israel is not alone and Israel should not be alone. Although the clock is ticking and progress is being made. . . in the US, Canada and in Britain they realize Iran is a problem for everybody and everybody needs to deal with that."

THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IS RISING AND APPEASEMENT IS NOT AN OPTION

By Rabbi Abraham Cooper in Fox NewsFox News logo

How would the media and politicians react if 5,000 "activists" chanted "death to Jews" outside a City Hall in your community?

How would European religious leaders react if neo-Nazis packed the Cologne Cathedral or Notre Dame to threaten Muslims, Jews and gays?

We all know the answer: Loud and sustained protests of "Not on our Watch"...

But last Friday, Egypt's ascendant Muslim Brotherhood provided a foretaste of their definition religious tolerance during a rally convened at Cairo's most prominent mosques. 5,000 people joined a rally where the chant "one day we shall kill all the Jews " echoed time and again along with "Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv Judgment Day is coming."

Storm Warnings: The Muslim Brotherhood and
Egypt's Future

After a round of deadly violence, an estimated 80% of Egyptians peacefully voted in the first round of parliamentary elections.

The results are a blow to those who hoped for a transition to a democratic civil society. Media reports indicate that early returns show the Muslim Brotherhood's political front group - the Democratic Alliance for Egypt - appears to have won as much as 45% of the vote with another 20 - 25% gained by the Islamic Bloc, the political arm of the Salafis. Despite some differences, both the Brotherhood and the Salifis share an Islamist ideology permeated with hatred of both the Israel and the United States.

What are the implications of an Egypt led by the Muslim Brotherhood?
