Tools for Tolerance for Education Professionals

At the Museum of Tolerance

Educational Leadership for Inclusive Schools

This two-day instructional program is designed for school leadership teams comprised of formal and informal leaders. The vertical teams (comprised of 3 – 6 participants) will include teachers, principals, superintendents, trustees, and other key people and will cover a whole school approach for integrating cultural proficiency into their respective practices. In an interactive format, participants will:

  • Gain tools for assessing one's own behavior and values, and for analyzing classroom and school policies and practices;
  • Explore a model of standards for addressing identified reforms at the schools and
  • Learn personal strategies for coping with resistance to change that arises from issues related to diversity.

The workshop sessions will be facilitated by Randall B. Lindsey, co-author of three books and a forthcoming video on Cultural Proficiency, and other experienced consultants.

Upon conclusion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

  • YRDSB Leadership for Inclusive Schools: Nov. 19 – 20 ’07
  • Leadership for Inclusive Schools: Dec. 3 - 4 ’07
  • Leadership for Inclusive Schools: May 12 - 13 ’08
    Deadline for application – March 7, ‘08

Participants must be available to travel to Los Angeles on the Sunday prior to the course date listed. FSWC will arrange all flight travel. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply before the deadline.

 

NEW COURSE!
International Institute for Equity in Education

This two day program is designed with and for university faculty and school researchers at Canadian schools of education. This Institute will bring together leading educational thinkers and practitioners to engage in dialogue with colleagues from the emerging Southern California Leadership Academy.

Participants will:

  • Explore the Cultural Proficiency model and other approaches to working successfully with diverse student populations.
  • Analyze and describe practices for overcoming disparities in access and achievement through the dimensions of: curriculum, instruction/pedagogy, assessment, professional development, and parent/community involvement.
  • Exchange ideas and promising practices with peers

The workshop sessions will be facilitated by Randall B. Lindsey, co-author of three books and a forthcoming video on Cultural Proficiency, and other experienced consultants.

Upon conclusion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

  • Maximum seating: 20 Canadian participants per session
  • Each perspective team must send in a joint Team Application Form
  • Each individual applicant must send in a Tools for Tolerance® for Educators Individual Application Form
  • Dates for course – November 12 – 13, '07

Law Enforcement Partnerships with Schools (LPS):
Building Inclusive, Safe Communities

The LPS program is designed to advance understanding and collaboration between law enforcement and education professionals. This three-day instructional program brings together key community stakeholders to develop strategic coalitions for building inclusive and safe school communities. Targeting neighbourhood teams (comprised of 3 – 6 participants) of educators, law enforcement professionals, parents, community representatives and other community stakeholders, the program is designed to advance understanding and collaboration. Participants will:

  • Examine evolving professional roles and recognize overlapping responsibilities in addressing pressing issues in their schools and neighbourhoods;
  • Engage in interactive exercises designed to build mutual support and
    appreciation for the demands and challenges each faces and
  • Create team action plans with well defined follow up protocols.

Law Enforcement Partnerships with Schools (LPS) is an advanced initiative of the acclaimed Tools for Tolerance® for Professionals program, responding to the needs for building community trust expressed by thousands of participating law enforcement professionals and educators. LPS is presented by Tools for Tolerance® for Professionals experienced staff and distinguished faculty.

Upon conclusion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

  • Maximum seating: 40 per session
  • Each perspective team must send in a joint Team Application Form
  • Each individual applicant must send in a Tools for Tolerance® Law Enforcement Partnerships with Schools (LPS) Individual Application Form
  • Dates for course – April 7 – 9 ‘08
    Deadline for application – Feb 1, ‘08
