Tour of Tolerance - Israel
This experience will influence and inform not only our teaching, but also our interactions with students and our input into system initiatives that pertain to equity education.

Compulsory Follow-up
The 1-week Tour of Tolerance workshop will provide training initiatives for principals,
superintendents and other key staff on Safe School initiatives. Themes will include
Holocaust, genocide, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, diversity and cultural awareness
training. All topics are relevant to current issues in education (ie. Inclusive
classrooms, character education, tolerance training) and will help build educators'
tools for making connections between theory and practice. Tour of Tolerance participants
will be joined by guest speakers and facilitators who will lead our group in dynamic
workshops throughout our stay in Israel.
HIGHLIGHTS include:
- Israel Crisis Management Center - volunteer network of support for new immigrants hit by sudden crisis, terror or tragedy
- Weizmann Institute of Science - one of the world's top-ranking multidisciplinary research institutions
- Baha’i Shrine and Gardens - international headquarters for the Baha'i Faith, which began amidst persecution in Persia in the mid-19th century
- Western Galilee Hospital - a bomb-proof operational underground hospital
- HaNadiv Elementary School - Northern Israel school twinned with school in Ottawa, Canada
- Mevasseret Zion Ethiopian Absorption Center - assists new Ethiopian immigrants in bridging the gap from rural Ethiopia to Israel’s society
- Beit Shean - ancient city and active archaeological excavation
- Supreme Court - the head of the court system in the State of Israel
- Yad Vashem - preserving the memory of the victims of the Holocaust while inspiring future generations to join the drive to a more humane future for humanity as a whole. Visit will include the Avenue of the Righteous of the Nations and the Children’s Memorial
- Center for Human Dignity - future home of Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance
- Old City of Jerusalem - walking tour of the holy city
Who may apply?
FSWC Tour of Tolerance is open to all Canadian educators –
preference will be given to those responsible for grades 6 and above. More than
one applicant may be accepted from the same school board.
What is the cost?
Air travel, shared Superior First Class accommodations, full breakfasts, some dinners,
driver, workshops, guest speakers, entry fees and taxes will be paid by FSWC.
A $600 fee will be charged to each participant to offset these costs.
A subsidy may be available upon request when necessary. Please refer to the

How to apply?
- Each individual applicant must send in a Tools for Tolerance® Tour of Tolerance Application Form and Letter of Reference Form which will be reviewed. The applicants will be accepted under the discretion of FSWC.
- Date of workshop: February 1 – 8, 2009.
