THE ORGANIZATION

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

THE OPPORTUNITY

FSWC seeks two certified teachers to join the Education department as Junior Educators. As an FSWC Junior Educator, you will be responsible for leading innovative and inspiring programming in both in-person and virtual formats for elementary and high school students across Canada.

YOU WILL

  • Learn and lead students in both in-person and virtual formats through our Equity & Diversity student workshops
  • Learn and lead students through our Tour for Humanity workshops
  • Contribute to the development of new educational programs and experiences that align with the goals of FSWC
  • Build and maintain educational networks with teachers and community educators to ensure repeat and frequent re-booking, as well as participation in other educational programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with survivor communities
  • Assist with the planning, promotion, and successful execution of all educational events
  • Support other FSWC team members as needed leading up to and during annual organizational events (i.e. Spirit of Hope, State of the Union, etc.)

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent experience along with a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum expectations (Ontario curriculum required; additional knowledge of curriculum in provinces/territories an asset).
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle that allows you to travel to schools.
  • A knowledge and understanding of Holocaust and genocide education along with the fight against hate, discrimination and antisemitism and the protection and advancement of human rights nationally and globally.
  • Strong and engaging presentation skills and creative approaches to generating interactivity with students in both virtual and in-person formats.
  • Superior relationship-building and communication skills ensuring the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Self-motivated and decisive with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
  • A solid understanding of technology and how to navigate a variety of platforms (including zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, etc.).

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a classroom setting.
  • A knowledge and passion for learning about the Holocaust, genocide, and more general human rights issues from both an historical and contemporary perspective.
  • Flexible schedule that is open to early morning and a willingness to travel across Ontario and Canada to present programs to students from 8 to 18 years of age.
