FSWC Concerned Over Planned Hate Rally in Toronto

August 8, 2018

Media Statement

Toronto (August 8, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is expressing concern over a planned hate rally to take place in Toronto on Saturday on the anniversary of last year’s antisemitic and hate-filled Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally.

The rally is being organized by a Calgary-based group called the Worldwide Coalition Against Islam.

“The City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario has to take a hard look at policy regarding public space used by groups who are promoting divisiveness, hate and intolerance,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “In addition to this group, our city space is being used annually by the ‘Al Quds Day’ rally which promotes antisemitism. So, there has to be an overall strategy over disallowing groups that are spreading hate, instead of inclusivity."
