FSWC Statement on Supsended University of Lethbridge Professor Anthony Hall

January 17, 2017

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies continues to monitor the situation following the decision by the University of Lethbridge in Alberta to lodge a complaint with the Alberta Human Rights Commission about tenured Professor Anthony Hall. Hall is suspected of advocating antisemitic views in online articles, videos and on social media - including his belief that the Holocaust is a controversial issue that should be open for debate, and that there is a Zionist link to 9-11. He was suspended in the fall of 2016 after the university became aware of Hall’s online activities.

Following his suspension, and a subsequent  external assessment of Hall’s social media activities completed in December 2016, the university Board of Governors decided to proceed with the human rights complaint, finding his statements could be considered “hateful, contemptuous and discriminatory."  The administration is also reviewing complaints made against Hall by individuals within the university community.
