FSWC Urges NDP to Disallow Anti-Israel Resolution at Upcoming Convention

January 24, 2018

Media Release

TORONTO (January 24, 2018) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is urging the federal NDP to not allow an anti-Israel resolution to be presented at the upcoming NDP convention.

Last week FSWC sent a letter to NDP President Marit Stiles, outlining the organization’s concerns regarding the proposed “Palestine Resolution”, which includes text calling for the NDP to support the BDS movement.

In the letter, FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo states that the troubling resolution “seeks to demonize and delegitimize Israel while offering a decidedly one-sided portrayal of the complex Israel-Palestine issue” and urges Stiles to “disallow this divisive and one-sided resolution to be included in the convention’s agenda.”

Benlolo goes on to state that the resolution is misleading and paints Israel as a villain, failing to mention the violence perpetrated by Palestinians and the willingness of the Palestinian Authority to support that violence. The resolution is also in “direct contravention of the anti-BDS motion passed in federal parliament in 2016.”
