JEWS DESERVE AMNESTY TOO
ATT: Alex Neve, Secretary
General, Amnesty International Canada
Jayne Stoyles, Executive Director, Amnesty International Canada
Lana Verran, President, Amnesty International Canada
ATT: The Right Honorable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
Whereas Amnesty International Canada (“Amnesty Canada”) has
launched a boycott campaign against the democratic Jewish State of Israel which
seeks to ban goods coming into Canada from “Israeli settlements”.[1] This boycott is antisemitic and contrary
to human rights.
Whereas a boycott violates the Ontario Discriminatory Business
Practices Act (1990); the Ontario anti-BDS motion passed by the Legislative
Assembly of Ontario (2016); the Canada anti-BDS motion passed by the House of
Commons (2016) and the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition
of antisemitism (2016).
Whereas recalling previous occurrences in history of antisemitic
and cultural boycotts against Jewish people, Jews deserve amnesty too. Israeli
towns and villages are exposed to rockets from Gaza, terrorist attacks and
incitement and antisemitism from Palestinians.
Whereas such boycott campaigns are inherently antisemitic and
discriminatory focused only on goods produced by Jewish-owned companies while
negatively impacting the empowerment of local residents (including
Palestinians) regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
Whereas Amnesty Canada’s apparent disregard of recent murderous
terror attacks against Jews would represent a double standard contrary
to its core human rights mandate.
Whereas Jews deserve to have their
rights to freedom, democracy and security respected, and
Whereas Jews deserve amnesty
from murder, terror, incitement and hate.
Therefore, WE THE PEOPLE of Canada join together to
call upon Amnesty Canada to withdraw its campaign immediately.
